Set in the heart of the Goodwood Estate, the Goodwood Hotel is a former eighteenth-century coaching inn located near the entrance to the park. The luxury hotel is the perfect balance of award winning dining, stylish rooms and 21st century technology. The hotel has 91 bedrooms and suites, and guests of the hotel can also make use of the adjoining health club and spa facilities.
Golf has been played at Goodwood for over a century. There are two Championship golf courses on the Goodwood estate: the Downs Course and the Park Course.
The Downs Course was designed originally for the pleasure of the seventh Duke of Richmond’s golf-mad children by the famous golfer and five times Open Champion, James Braid, in 1914. It has been described as the finest Downland course in Britain and is ranked as one of the Top 100 Golf Courses in England.
Recently ranked as the 59th in Top 100 English Courses and ‘home’ to the English PGA Championship, the Downs Course rises steeply from the clubhouse, The Kennels, up towards Goodwood Racecourse perched high on the South Downs and gives golfers incredible views of Chichester Cathedral, down to the Isle of Wight and the sparkling Solent beyond. Designed in 1914 by legendary golf architect, designer of Gleneagles and Carnoustie and five times winner of the Masters Championship, James Braid, The Downs course features tricky doglegs and long sweeping greens which are both a treat and a challenge to true golf fans.
The Park Course. World-renowned golf course architect Donald Steel was commissioned to produce a design that would reflect the prestige of its stunning backdrop: Goodwood House and its 18th-century cedars. The result is an easy-walking 6650-yard course that suits all levels of golfing ability, but still provides ample challenges for any golfer. Indeed, the caliber of the course has been confirmed with the successful hosting of national and international tournaments.
The Park Course is located at The Goodwood Hotel, where guests can enjoy superb facilities including stylish locker and shower rooms and access to the Bar & Grill Spike bar, where registration and breakfast will take place, and various private dining rooms.
